Orchid was a fun one to stitch, and, at a frantic pace no less: 29 hours, 37 minutes, and 25 seconds.
Since she was stitched for a friend's waaaaaay belated birthday, I framed her with these gorgeous metallic frames from Michael's. After a 50% off coupon, I think it cost less than $6 for the frame.
I love this design. It'd be pretty safe to say that this is my favorite out of Maurer-Stroh's Baby Animals line. My intention has always been to stitch six to eight of the babies and then figure out a way to display them. Reality sank in, of course, LOL!, and I'm perfectly happy with the Dalmation Baby being the Hedgehog Baby's only companion.
Oh, Ivy was a fun one to stitch!! I love her dress. All those olive and brown tones are so much up my alley! I found it interesting that her wings are practically the same colors as the ones in Fern.
This one came out of the blue, no pun intended, LOL!! I was actually going to stitch Mermaid of Atlantis, but as the planning progressed, Mermaids of the Deep Blue fitted in perfectly with what I wanted to do for a Mirabilia wall.

I loved stitching this piece. The greens alone are enough to make me swoon. The beaded scales are amazing and glitter like crazy even under minimal lighting.
Here is a picture of my Mirabilia wall. I picked the pieces to represent the three main category of Nora's designs: Fairies, Ladies, and Mermaids.

Petal Fairy - A fairy basking in the warmth of the sunset. We have the most beautiful purple/lavender sunsets in SFL. My cousin says the fairy reminds her of me... who am I to argue? LOL!!!

Circle of Friends - The Ladies dancing in the fields. They represent me and my two 'sisters-of-the-heart.'

Mermaids of the Deep Blue - Mermaids gathering treasures deep in the ocean. They represent four of my closest friends, Bren, Jen, Heidi, and Vanessa, who are treasures to me.
My friends, Vanessa and Heidi, and I SAL'ed on this piece. A friend of ours was going through a rough time and we thought it'd cheer her up to receive some pillows in the mail. V and I stitched up two versions of it–bright pink from me and bright blue-green from her. Once done, they headed over to Heidi, who made them into gorgeous pillows.
This birth announcement was stitched for my cousin's second child. (I stitched the Cow Baby for his older brother.) The original Easter Bunny Baby worked perfectly.

I first saw Nora's Pixie Couture series a few years ago but it took me awhile to decide about stitching them. Fern was my first. I decided, after discussing with hubby, to leave her featureless as charted. Hubby's viewpoint was that since it's a couture collection, she resembles a mannequin and since I wanted to display this series in our closet, it's the perfect setting! :D

For the finishing of this piece, I decided to use fabric as a sort of mat backing. This makes it very inexpensive and adds to the charm of having this series displayed in the closet. CLICK HERE for a tutorial.
When I first discovered Mirabilia years ago, this was my favorite. It was as if she reached out and grab a piece of my heart and never let go. :) I finally got around to stitching her this year, and she's more gorgeous than I could've imagine.

I smoothed out her arms so they're not so jaggedy, as well as rearranged some of her fingers, so they didn't look like claws. All in all, I'm super pleased with how they turned out.

This was a fantastic piece of fabric from Picture This Plus. I started her on the bottom left, as I wanted the flower stem to flow out from the dark purple variegation. I was also careful to balance the purple shape on the left with the purple in her wings. Happily, in doing that, her face ended up in the lightest part of the fabric.... as if the sunlight was shining down on her. I couldn't have been more pleased! :D

The purple kreinik in her wings was very close in color to the lighter purples in the fabric, and as a result, her wings have a translucent quality to them.
When I started looking at Chatelaine Designs years ago, this was the first one that caught my eye. I loved the pastel colors and, added to it the fact that hubby is Indian, it was a must do on my list. I finally got around to it this year, and it was well worth the way. I love how the blues and pinks and purples and yellow came together so beautifully. Granted, it's not "Indian" in terms that the colors aren't bright and bold, but there's something inherently traditional about the soft mixture of those particular colors.

We did the framing ourselves and were fortunate enough to find the perfect frame for it at HomeGoods. A trip to Michael's for their gallery glass and a special order linen mat, $250 saved, some comical errors later, voilà! :D
My favorite aunt has been asking me to stitch her something for quite a number of years now. Never demanding, mind you. She always said "when you have the time, stitch me something small." Now, let me tell you about this aunt...

My dad is the oldest boy in his family, and when my parents got married, all his younger unmarried siblings stayed with them, as did my grandparents. My Aunt Pat was a stewardess with Singapore Airlines and flew all over the world. Wherever she went, she brought stuff back for me.... smocked dresses, soft toys, you name it. Once.... she lugged a dog bigger than the size of 2 year old me all the way back!!

When I was about 11, I stitched her an outdoor scene with a house in the backdrop. It was the first thing I stitched for anyone, and she refers to it as a picture of her dream house. To this day, it's hung up in her bedroom.

Terrace Arch called her name loud and clear when I saw it at Michael's and with a 50% off coupon, the kit was a steal!!! In the note I sent with the finished piece, I told my aunt that I'm sending her a picture of the view from the terrace of her dream house. :)
I thought of my in-laws when I saw this chart, bought it and fully intented of a quick stitch-and-send-off to them. What is that they say about the best laid plans? ;)

I started stitching this in hand and it did NOT go well. I really loathe doing that and as result, the partially stitched version sat in a bag I carried to work for months. Finally, up on the scroll it went and what do you know?... it was finished within days!
Your eyes isn't playing tricks on you... this stitched up really quickly. Actually, it would've been finished 10 days earlier, but I had to wait for some silks. I loved the play between the blues and greens in this mandala and those blackwork gates are gorgeous in person!!
I fell in love with her the minute I saw her, but put off kitting her up for quite a while as I didn't know where she'd be displayed in our home. I toyed with the idea of stitching her for the fun of it, but just couldn't do it. Well, my cousin really loved her too, so I stitched Sabrina for her. :D

I had did quite a few fabric layovers (as I'm wont to do) before deciding on this Ancient color fabbie. I must say, I had my doubts when it came out of the packaging. There were more grey blues than I'd thought. But the more I stitched, the more the fabric seem to come to life and weave itself into the perfect landscape for Sabrina.

There must have been a gazillion petite black beads in her dress, but they sure looks amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed stitching the little green swarovski flowers on her dress. They glint and glow beautifully!

Sabrina is now displayed on a prestigious spot in the foyer of my cousin's home. :D
I have been in lust with this design for years! Chatelaines have always been something I wanted to stitch but it was difficult to commit to the price of the kits as Martina charts using a lot of silks. She always offers great conversions to DMC and this is a much more affordable route, but my thinking has always been that when I eventually make the leap, it will be to use the fibers as she has designed.

Then came the fateful day, when a good friend asked me what I wanted for my birthday.
"Birthday?" I said.... "don't you mean THREE birthdays and TWO christmases?" (LOL!!!!) and I got the Japanese Garden kit for my pressie!!!

I loved stitching this. It shows so much thought and care in the design that I can't help but admire Martina's talent anew every time I get to a new section. The cranes are stitched 1 over 1 and that was fun to do. If I had to pick a favorite part, it'd be the pink blossoms on the North branch. That color makes me smile every time. The beads and bling are to die for!!
This was my first Chatelaine stitch, and I fell head over heels in love. The rest, as they say... is history. :D
I love this piece!! There's something so alive in the eyes of the wolf that's looking at us. I love how they're nuzzled up together and seem to convey that they can handle whatever life might bring.

It was stitched for hubby who loves wolves. We must have looked at countless of wolf designs and none of them seemed quite right... till we saw this! You know how sometimes you see things and there seems to be flashing lights around them? Well.... this kit had those Broadway spotlights on it. LOL!!! There wasn't the slightest hesitation in buying and stitching it.
This one took awhile... 4 years from start to finish. Total stitching time, however, was probably inside of a year. I would stitch-binge on her and then get fed-up and stitch something else. I think one of those times, I didn't touch her for a year! And the 939.... let's not get into the 939!! (DMC color.... LOTS of it.)

It wasn't until mid-2009 that I put my one-at-a-timer hat solidly on and finished her, and even then I think I took a couple of breaks. I love how the fish look around her head, each one seems to have a life of its own. I didn't like how her eyelids looked in the chart as compared to the original artwork, so I added some backstitching to make them more prominent.

I think she turned out beautifully!! :D
Hubby loved this the moment he saw it, so, of course I had to stitch it for him. It did take me about 2 years to get around to stitching it though, but once I started, it took me but a matter of days to finish. I think he's one of the cutest things I've ever done.
When Novia, EeKoon, and I saw this, we said it reminded us of us... sisters in heart and spirit. So, I claimed the teal girl as me (since green is my favorite color), the yellow girl with the biggest chest naturally went to EeKoon (LOL!), and Novia, sweet thing that she is (not!) is the orange girl.

I dubbed this "Washday Girls"; as they looked like they're dancing in celebration of a well-done wash. Picture, if you will, the washing hung up on clothes line, flapping and dancing in the wind.

I made quite a bit of color changes from the original design. I preferred the tone on tone color of the floss and beads in the orange girl, so I switched out all the teal beads from the yellow girl and gave her gold and brown beads. The teal kreinik was switched out for a dark brown. For the teal girl, instead of gold beads, I gave her silver and bronze, which resulted in a 'cooler', more wintry look. I also set the beads in different angle. As a result, they catch the light different and makes for a nice effect.

To this day this fabric remains my favorite color and if I get the chance, I'll use it again in a heartbeat.
LOL! This was purchased from Wal-Mart many moons ago. Remember when they used to carry stitching stuff?
I stitched this for my boss. He's a sweet elderly man and we have a great working relationship. He loves the ocean, so as his Christmas presents for 2 years running, I stitched him small ocean scenes. (For 2008, it was Beach Retreat.)

When Christmas 2010 rolled along, I didn't have the time or energy to stitch him something and when he saw that he got WholeFoods goodies for Christmas, he pointed to an empty spot on his wall and it the other 2 looks lonely. So, I told him that if things go well this year, maybe he'll get 2, but only if he were really good. LOL!!!
Ah, I LOVED stitching this for a couple of reasons. First, it was for a dear friend, and second, the beadwork on the blackberries was soooo much fun to do!! For close-ups, please visit MY ALBUM.
I wanted to frame it up before sending this to Brenda. So, we went to HomeGoods, found a frame we liked, took out the picture that was in there, and voila. The frame and matting cost less than $15!
If I had this to do over, I'd use a different shade of yellow gold. It's duller IRL, and just doesn't stand out as much as I'd like against the blue fabric. Perhaps I should have gone monochromatic with this one, but I had picked the colors to match the shower curtain in the guest bath, where this resided for a mere couple of months.
